In '66, he raced Formula One for Gurney's All American Racers team in a BRM and later that year drove for Ferrari in the World Manufacturers' Championship. Racing in the Can-Am series in '67, he had a steering arm break while practicing at Watkins Glen aboard a McLaren Mk II that was going 150 mph. Doctors gave Mr. Bondurant a five-percent chance of ever walking again. After much physical therapy and a lifetime worth of determination, Bob proved the doctors wrong by walking again and by racing and founding the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. He started the school in 1968 and has trained over 100,000 people in the skill of safe driving and swift racing. Mr. Bondurant has undoubtedly had more impact on the sport of racing than any other individual. As a professional racer he had few peers, so to as a professional driving and racing instructor and school owner.
