Awesome Car Movies: Part 1

From now until I can't think of anymore movie to do I will be featuring a classic "car" movie every couple of weeks. Some will be flat out car chase movies; some will be regular type movies that feature cool cars in some way. I will be featuring great movies and some stinkers that are cool none the less for the automotive factor.

Seeing as it is late on Friday afternoon, I figure I won't delve into deep topics like how the cars in American Graffiti represent the change from youth to adult, or explain the intricacies of the greatness of the Chase Scene from Bullit.

No I am starting off with some pure cheese. Yes the great Corvette Summer. This is a movie I had seen parts of growing up, but didn't sit down to watch it in it's entirety until a couple of months ago. The movie stars Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill, as a student who builds a horrendous custom corvette in shop class. The car is so bad I can't even begin to explain it, it drips seventies disco gaudiness so bad I think it has a cocaine habit. He meets up with a prostitute in a sweet custom van, and embarks on a summer adventure looking for his stolen Vette. The movie ends with a spectacular car chase, and a secret twist. If you haven't seen this movie I suggest you go out and rent it.

Also a fun fact from imdb.com: The Corvette was a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray converted to right hand drive so that Mark Hamill could hang out of the curbside window looking at the ladies!
