One of the greatest cars (in my mind) ever created, might be coming back as a Kit car!
A texas based company that purchased the rights to the DeLorean name, trademarks, and the engineering plans have been refurbishing and repairing the roughly 6,500 DeLoreans still on the road. They are now moving towards building all new DeLoreans with the parts and engines left over after the original DeLorean Motor Company went under.
Most people in my age group see the DeLorean as iconic as the James Dean Porsche, Bullit 'Stang, or Milner's American Graffiti Duece Coupe (I alway's liked Falfa's '55, but that's just me). I can say almost certainly that the DeLorean from Back to the Future had a huge impact on me as a kid. I'll have to start saving up for an all new DeLorean, i have a feeling they aren't going to be cheap.
I'll leave you with a quote from the movie...
Marty McFly: Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?
Dr. Emmett Brown: The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?
Edit: I just noticed they have one of the DeLorean facilities in Garden Grove, CA... Just a few miles from my apartment and work. I should check to see if I can get a tour, you know for research purposes.
